Rated one of America’s Best Small Towns, John's Island is proud to call the charming seaside community of Vero Beach home. Located “where the tropics begin,” ocean breezes prevail and moderate temperatures average 74 degrees. Welcoming both residents and visitors, the quaint town represents 12 square miles within the county, and offers 23 miles of sandy beach along the Atlantic Ocean. This warm and welcoming town is geographically divided by the scenic Indian River, with the land east of the river referred to as the barrier island (beachside), and the land west of the river, the mainland. The Indian River offers wide vistas dotted by mangrove-filled spoil islands that serves as home to bottlenose dolphin, manatees, blue crabs, heron and an abundance of other wildlife.

Occupying seven miles of ocean frontage just north of Vero Beach, Indian River Shores is an environmentally protected, oak-hammock area that is home to 3,700 affluent residents, almost half of which represent John's Island residents.

Getting to Vero Beach

Getting to and from Vero Beach is a simple, and can range from 40 minutes to 1.5 hours. The town is 90 miles from Orlando International Airport, just 70 miles from the Palm Beach International Airport and 35 miles from the Melbourne Airport, placing it within a comfortable drive from two major transportation centers. We have direct access to major highways and Kennedy Space Center, Daytona Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, Miami and The Keys are all under three hours driving time.

Incorporated in 1919, Vero Beach (pop. 22,000) is the county seat of Indian River County (pop. 120,000). The average temperature is 74 degrees. Summer months average 82 degrees, while winters average about 60 degrees. August is the warmest month, while September has the most rain, followed by June, October and August.
